Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the most well-known and recognisable treatment available through TCM. It involves the insertion of fine needles into specific locations on the body called 'Acupuncture Points'.
When the practitioner diagnoses the patient, he identifies the organs involved and selects points on their corresponding meridians.
As illness is perceived to be a disharmony in the distribution of the body’s energy (also know as 'qi'), acupuncture is able to directly manipulate the energy in the meridians and restore balance.
From a Western view, acupuncture is proven to stimulate the release of various secretions within the body. These secretions have the actions of helping to stop pain, fight disease and restore homeostasis. Recent research also has shown that the stimulation of the acupuncture points is able to deactivate specific areas of the brain responsible for controlling our perception of pain.
Acupuncture treatments can also be greatly enhanced by combining them with other treatments:
Hypnopuncture, Moxibustion , Cupping , Gua Sha , Electro-stimulation , Ear Acupuncture
